Earlier this month I spent a couple of days running and walking through the beautiful Belfast pine-tree plantation to finalise the route for the 2014 AdventureLisa’s Forest Run route. While the route fundamentals are similar to that run in the inaugural Forest Run in March 2013, I’ve tweaked elements, discovered some other peaceful forest tracks and I’ve made one BIG change…
From the get-go my initial plan had been to alternate the route running it ‘clockwise’ one year and ‘anti-clockwise’ the next. And having done the route in reverse two weeks ago, it is a go! It’s quite incredible how the vistas change as you look out on the wetlands from the opposite direction. Long, gentle uphills become long, gentle downhills and forested avenues look quite different.
As a result of this direction change, runners who did the 30-kilometre course in 2013 will be treated to completely new terrain in 2014 over the first half.
Other changes include a new route split between the 35-kilometre and 62-kilometre courses as well as the inclusion of two water drops (in addition to the three water points and feed station), which will be appreciated if temperatures are as hot as they were two weeks ago.
I look forward to sharing my delight in these forests with you on Saturday, 1 March 2014.
